Icy Path

Started running north of Rockford today on the White Pine Trail. Path was fine until 12 mile road at that point it became very icy. Turned around ran back to Rockford then did the Mitchell's Run course.
Planned a 10 mle run but it got reduced to 5 miles - gotta go with the flow.

Saturday's Run

Went north this morning on White Pine Trail out of Belmont. Trail pretty icy so at the 2nd road got on Packard and went along the Rogue River. All in all a scenic 5 mile run. Temperature was great
at 35-40* F. Trail along US131 looked clear later in the day.

Training With a Group/Great Weekend

No matter what the sport group training will help you achieve your goals. The synergistic effect of the group can elevate your performances.

Great weather to get outside this weekend.

From a "Running Times" Article
The Coach's Take
While time constraints or travel are legitimate barriers for some, most runners worry they won't be able to keep up with others in the group or are afraid they'll have to prove something, Jenny Spangler says.
Yet running with a group provides mental and physical benefits, as well as a network of people sharing best practices and resources. The group dynamic can compel members to challenge themselves on days when they might otherwise check out.
"It's often the power of the group that gets these athletes where they need to be," Spangler says.

Workout Wednesday & Dog Runs Half-Marathon

Workouts are always more fun with a group. Click here.

Something caught the attention of Ludivine, a 2 1/2-year-old bloodhound living in Alabama, on the morning of Jan. 16 and the dog was off and running.
And running. And running.
She didn’t stop until she’d finished the Elkmont Train Trek Half-Marathon, finishing seventh among the pack of runners in 1:32:56. It’s a truly amazing feat on a number of levels. For one thing, her owner, April Hamlin, had just let her out for a quick bathroom break. For another, Ludivine is a bit of a sloth.

“She’s laid-back and friendly, so I can’t believe she ran the whole half-marathon because she’s actually really lazy,”
Although her owner worried that her pup might have been a distraction for the field of 165 runners, Ludivine seemed to make friends along the way, stopping once to sniff out a dead rabbit.
“One time she went over and met another dog next to the course,” he told Runner’s World. “Later on, she went into a field with some mules and cows. Then she’d come back and run around our legs.”
Elkmont is a small town and everyone just thought Ludivine belonged to a runner.

Running Outside this Weekend

Saturday ran at new place Roselle Park located on Grand River Dr near Ada. The 8 foot ashphalt trail was mostly clear and is pretty flat. The "blue loop" is a 5K loop that has mile markers every 1/4 mile. This would be a great locattion do do some moderate interval training.

Today's 9 mile run was out the White Pine Trail starting in Rockford and running north. The trail had a minimal covering of snow and footing was good. When running on the trail in the winter slow down and run for time instead of distance.

Time to Start Moving

The start of track practice is only 7 short weeks away! If you are not participating in a winter sport Coach Peoples is conducting after school workouts Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45pm-3:20pm. Meet in my room B201. These typically are conditioning workouts concentrating on the use of body weight for resistance.

You might also consider running in one of the local indoor track meets click here for the remaining season schedule. You can contact Coach Schneider or myself for more information.
